Configuring a Zebra Label Printer

Remote Sampler supports the use of Zebra Bluetooth label printers for label printing in the field. Before a new printer can be used for the first time, it will require configuration. This page gives a brief overview of the configuration process.

Step 1 - Download the Configuration Tool

Zebra provide a printer configuration utility that can be downloaded here:

https://www.zebra.com/us/en/support-downloads/printer-software/printer-setup-utilities.html

Step 2- Connect the Printer

Install this utility on a Windows machine and connect the label printer using a USB connection.

Ensure that the printer has a charged battery and suitable labels installed. Turn the printer on and start the configuration utility.

Step 3 - Run Through the Configuration Process

When the utility opens, the connected printer should show in the large white box as shown below.

Click on the Configure Printer Settings button. This will start the configuration wizard.

In the first step, specify the correct label dimensions otherwise the labels will not print correctly within the bounds of the labels used.

Next, adjust the print speed and darkness if necessary.

The following step allows media settings to be changed. The Media Type box here is most important since this must match the specific labels being used. Some labels are separated from each other physically on the label roll with just a small gap present, other label types are a single continuous perforated label with perforations identified by regular black marks.

Leave the Pause after each label setting set to No pause. Remote Sampler manages the delay between label print actions.

There are further advanced settings that can be changed if necessary.

It is also possible to save the configuration changes to a file to apply to future devices.

The printer configuration utility can also be used to generate test labels using the Configure Print Quality workflow to allow adjustments to be made to the darkness and contrast of the label output.

Bluetooth connectivity behaviour can also be adjusted using this utility by clicking on the Configure Printer Connectivity button.
